Canvas
The University of Minnesota uses Canvas as its Learning Management System. This web-based platform allows instructors to manage their courses, assignments, quizzes, discussion forums, video conferences, and communications with their students. The Canvas: Get Started With Canvas self-help guide can assist in the development and management of your course.
CCAPS has developed a template for all of our courses.
Please contact ATD if you have questions about setting up your Canvas site.
Course Syllabus
The course syllabus is an important part of the Canvas site. It will include the following sections:
- Course description
- A link to instructor information
- Educational purpose of the course
- Course materials list
- Technical Requirements
- Learning Outcomes
- Grading policies
- AI Statement
- University policies
- A summary of the course modules and assignments (generated automatically from the course content)
Instructors should maintain the course description, the instructor information, and the course materials list. Please make sure that all class details (e.g., dates and times) are up to date before the beginning of each semester.
The syllabus must be reviewed with students at the beginning of the course. It is an important contract between instructor and student.
For questions about specific course needs as related to policies, ask Tony Scott or Lynn Cross.
Essential Content
The University of Minnesota syllabus requirements policy provides guidelines for what should be included in the course syllabus.
